"Izumi, are you certain of this?" the sandy-haired dog spirit looked at her with calm brown eyes. Beside him, his wife stood, at least a head shorter than he, with flame-red hair cropped evenly at her shoulders. A boy of no more than two years gripped her hand. Anyone could see they were related, his hair seemed to be flame itself, not to mention the attentive tangerine eyes that watched the one to whom his father had directed the question with keen discretion.
The woman was standing ill at ease, between them in height with noble features. Her eyes seemed distant sky windows. They had once been bright, awake and alive even. Vibrant and full, they now held a dull listless sheen. She reached a hand to her face and brushed aside a few white strands of her hair and looked up from the bundle that she held, for what she hoped to be the last time.
Eyes so much like ones that had once held her stare captive for hours now lay softly closed in a tiny angelic face. So innocent and fresh, and yet this being, her own daughter, made her want to wretch and break down at the very sight of her, let alone the touch. She had tried, tried for nearly a year to become accustomed to her little responsibility. But the pain had remained, her wounds reopened continuously and they now threatened to bleed her to death.
And so, she had come to this. Hatred for this innocent, her own flesh and blood, Izumi reviled her daughter with everything left of her heart. Turning to her old friends, who had seen her better days and would understand, she had asked them to take her child, her daughter, her Reina.
In reply to Hund's final question, Izumi only nodded. Her pale, colorless hair moved like ocean foam with her head's motion. The action betrayed none of the excitement that swelled within her as the moment neared its climax. The babe in her arms stirred and yawned sleepily. The thing, as Izumi had come to know her child, had given off such a display of innocence that should only have endeared her to her mother more. But no, it disgusted Izumi, repelled her, and sealed her desicion.
Smoothly she handed the child to Hund. He was still the calm and caring man she had remembered from their first introduction through his now wife, Ame. And Ame was still the fircely loyal and passionate friend from the days of their youth. She had however, become a loving mother now as well, something Izumi couldn't comprehend doing.
"Goodbye," she managed, her cold voice sounding treacherously shaky, waiting to betray the excitement this exchange's result, freedom, gave her. Turning from them, she began her journey for healing that would never come with a whisper.
"What a monster I am."
I'm resubmitting what I have of Blue Light, revised, cleaned up, etc. And I'm starting by showing you all the prologue to it.

Chapter 1 should be up shortly after this.

With a spiffy Preview image FTW.

At least, I think so.

So, this is the beginning for Rei, for Ihen, for Blue Light.
